Eleanor Mae Carlton 83, of 1117 3rd Ave. Iowa City, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Mercy Hospital of Iowa City due to a brief illness.
A gathering of family and friends will be 2:30 to 4:30 Friday, June 27, 2008 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Eleanor’s name. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com.
Eleanor Mae Wanner was born July 2, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois. The daughter of Charles and Mae Wanner she graduated from high school and went to work as a secretary. On December 14, 1943 she married Burl Carlton and moved to Iowa City. After marriage Eleanor became a house wife for a short time, she then began working for the University of Iowa Business Office as a secretary, for 21 years.
Her family includes her husband Burl of Iowa City; son Dennis Carlton of Piedmont, SD.; grandchild Kane (Laurie) Carlton; and great-grandchildren Alexandria, Kaden, Kaleb Carlton all of Marion, IA.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, and son Dean Carlton.
