How did the term Funeral Home originate?

In years past, funerals were held in the home of the deceased. Many older homes had "parlors" for this purpose. With the mobility of our society, we have gotten away from services in the home, to having services in funeral homes and places of worship. The term "funeral home" reminds us of the past, but also the "home" part of the term reflects the caring, comfortable feeling funeral homes try to provide at the time of service.
