Angels Among Us
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service sponsored "Angels Among Us". (Address: 2655 Hillside Drive, Iowa City, Iowa 52245). The Angel of Hope Statue Dedication Ceremony was held Sunday, April 22, 2007 at Lower City Park in Iowa City. We are honored to have welcomed Richard Paul Evans, author of "The Christmas Box". The Angel of Hope Statue was placed in City Park to help people with the healing process that comes with the loss of a child. Whether that child is an infant, has been stillborn or is a teenager, people need a place to come and leave part of their grief. The idea of the statue comes from the book "The Christmas Box", where a mother weeps at the base of the statue trying to deal with her grief. There are now 53 statues across the United States.
An annual candle light vigil will be held Monday, December 6, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Lower City Park, Shelter #8. (Location is across the parking lot from the Angel of Hope Statue).

Wings of Hope
Wings of Hope’, a monarch tag and release program, combines service and remembrance to 9/11. For the ninth year, Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is working with elementary students in a positive way to recognize a very tragic day in America’s history. In recognition of 9/11, Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City join the Third graders at Lucas Elementary and the Second graders at Kate Wickham for a service learning program with monarch butterflies.
‘Wings of Hope’ offers a way for the children of Iowa City and Coralville to provide scientific information for the University of Kansas’ research of the migratory travels of monarch butterflies. The monarch program for both programs is led by Kathleen Zimmers, of Butterflz of Iowa, Des Moines. The monarch release for Robert Lucas elementary will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, September 8th at 12 noon while Kate Wickham students will release at 12 noon on the school grounds Friday, September 9th at 12noon. At the conclusion of the service project, each child will voice their wishes and hopes for a better world as the butterflies are released into the wild. The public is invited to attend both events.
