Angels Among Us
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service sponsored "Angels Among Us". (Address: 2655 Hillside Drive, Iowa City, Iowa 52245). The Angel of Hope Statue Dedication Ceremony was held Sunday, April 22, 2007 at Lower City Park in Iowa City. We are honored to have welcomed Richard Paul Evans, author of "The Christmas Box". The Angel of Hope Statue was placed in City Park to help people with the healing process that comes with the loss of a child. Whether that child is an infant, has been stillborn or is a teenager, people need a place to come and leave part of their grief. The idea of the statue comes from the book "The Christmas Box", where a mother weeps at the base of the statue trying to deal with her grief. There are now 53 statues across the United States.
An annual candle light vigil will be held December 6, at 7:00 p.m.

On The Wings of Monarchs
On The Wings of Monarchs
Annual “Wings of Hope” - Monarch Butterfly Release
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service and Robert Lucas Elementary’s 3rd grade classes will once again participate in the Monarch Watch program on September 11, 2007. The release of these tagged wonders will begin at 12:45 on the front lawn of the funeral home. The public is invited to attened this rapidly growing organization of scientists and civilians who are devoted to strengthening the future of the butterflies. “We are basically a conservation group, concerned with the diminishing habitat of the Monarchs, and finding ways to enhance their environments.” Said Kathleen Zeimer, of ButterfliZ of Iowa. “Just like Ducks Unlimited or Pheasants Forever or other groups, we’re constantly learning about the science of the creatures we’re trying to protect.” As the children release the monarchs on their rite of passage, they will be sent off with personal wishes, before they let them fly the thousands of miles to Sierra Madra, a mountains system in central Mexico. Although the life of an adult butterfly is so fleeting (a Monarch lives about 15 days), the wishes will be carried forever on the wind. Join the school children in this monarch butterfly release which offers a message of hope for our world on the wings of these butterflies.
